Good roomy bag for GRAD student.

 on October 15, 2015

So I have been using a messenger bag for the last year, but decided to switch back to a traditional backpack because my back has been killing me. As a grad school student I needed a bag with multiple compartments, and enough room for several heavy binders and books. I had this backpack when I was in highschool (go ’04!), and I used to love it so I decided to give it a second go. I still have the old one but it’s covered in Sharpie designs.

beat like a dog for six years and going strong

My wife has used this everyday for the past six years. It goes to work, on trips, on the subway. It hauls her crap

I have 3 busy boys. When we first bought these backpacks they were starting 4rd, 8th and 11th grades. All 3 of them love the numerous pockets and divisions which help them stay organized. They love the variety of colors and they each picked colors and styles to match their personalities. My middle son is very hard on everything he owns. One year we picked out a $65 backpack (not a Jansport), which he had torn a hole in before the third month of use, this we replaced with yet another brand that faired only better than the original. This is when we decided to try this style. He has now had his backpack for 2 years and I am going to buy him a replacement one to start 10th grade. The top strap is torn and the backpack is dirty and a bit torn on the bottom but considering the child using it, it has held up beyond my expectations (I would have been happy with 1 year and we got 2!!). The other 2 boys, now a 6th grader and a college freshman) are still using their original backpacks and despite offering the college freshman a new backpack, he says his is still good. I think he likes the softer more malleable shoulder straps of his well worn backpack.

Finally a quality bookbag designed for heavier loads that lasts more than one year

My wife is a professor and is always transporting several textbooks back and forth from the classroom. She is typically very hard on bookbags and for one to last more than a year is a rarity. This JanSport Big Student Classic has lasted her almost two and a half years now and is still going strong. That is unheard of for her, so one can get an idea that this is a quality product designed to carry 30 lb loads day in and out.

Great for general carry, not for those who sweat easily.

I like to be prepared for anything dumb that might come up (change of clothes, first aid, snacks, water, external battery, knife etc) and my Swissgear backpack (don’t remember which model) worked great until I started running out of space…. then it was stolen, so this was recommended to me. It is definitely a high quality item that holds a large amount of stuff. It always seems there is some way to fit more, even when you think it’s impossible. I know Jansport is a very reputable brand and it definitely shows.

Amazing backpack…with one flaw

I bought this bag for school because I had so many things to carry and this was one of the biggest backpacks I could find that actually looked nice. After almost a year of heavy use, it has held up perfectly, but the one flaw is that the zipper occasionally gets stuck in the flap that covers it, and it takes a long time of pulling and yanking to finally fix it. Other than that, it’s one of the best backpacks I’ve ever owned.

Replacing it after 3 years of middle school service

 on August 11, 2015
By PurchaseOptimizer
This lasted my son 3 years of middle school, and even now the only reason we’re replacing it is that the side pocket mesh wore out (last year) and the bottom is starting to wear out. My kid isn’t the toughest on things, but he’s not careful with them either. This is a very practical pack- a large enough main section for books and a sweatshirt on top of them, another section for lunch or laptop, and smaller pockets for… whatever. It has the fold-over flaps on the main sections to keep water out when it rains. So why not 5-stars? One of the zippers would frequently jam in the same spot on the rain flap (a problem I fixed by cutting a slice in the rain flap that didn’t impact its effectiveness) and the bottle holder mesh on the side needed to be taller to hold a 1.5 liter bottle (1-liter, no problem) more securely.

I haven’t felt like the bag felt extremely heavy

I decided to purchase this after debating between it and another Jansport bag. Then I saw the young lady’s video post and was sold. I’m in grad school (English) and also teaching freshman composition and literature courses, so i definitely needed a bag that would allow me to carry my stuff and the books for my classes I teach and papers I collect. This lets me do it all at once, and interestingly enough, I haven’t felt like the bag felt extremely heavy. Typically when I have four books and my notebooks, I feel weighed down and suspect the bag may break. I’ve carried six books from the library, two notebooks, my gradebook, planner, essays and homework that was for 63 students (equaling approx. one ream of paper), snacks, and water bottle. It felt nowhere near as heavy as it would have in the old bag. I also still had a lot of room.

Finally a backpak that works! The color is great, the water-bottle holder is a terrific feature, and it fits comfortable

Finally a backpak that works! When school started this year I ended up buying and returning four other backpaks until I found one that works. The first backpak I bought was from JanSport and it fell apart after one month of school use…with a hole in the bottom. It was a two-tone color with a suede-leather look for the bottom construction and failed miserably. Customer service was great, I shipped the product to the manufacturer and they provided a refund. This replacement school backpak is not a disappointment. The color is great, the water-bottle holder is a terrific feature, and it fits comfortable on my kids back when loaded with books.
